Beirut Opera
A waterfront opera rising between Beirut’s towers and the sea, where architecture floats on water.

Concept
The project is set within the context of the new Beirut, on the waterfront, in an area dominated by high-rise towers. The opera emerges from the urban ground like a stage inhabited by light. It shines between the towers and asserts its presence on a podium elevated from the ground, standing apart from their verticality. It therefore appears as a cultural figure at the heart of this urban composition, visible from both the city and the sea.
The architecture of the opera does not seek to represent either the Eastern or the Western world. Instead, it chooses to position itself between these two universes, as a space of encounter and dialogue. The opera is not dedicated to one culture over another, but to the entire world. It becomes a mosaic of voices, traditions, and influences that meet and enrich one another.
Anchored on the Mediterranean Sea, it evokes the very soul of Beirut, a city whose history and identity have always maintained a privileged relationship with the sea and with everything that lies beyond the horizon. Its volumes settle along the shore as if floating on water, while creating a vast esplanade that weaves a connection between the city and the sea. Water becomes a material of the project: it moves through the spaces, reflects the light, extends the pathways, and makes the architecture vibrate like a silent melody.
The sea is not considered a simple backdrop, but an essential element of the spatial experience. Music is not only performed inside the building; it extends outward. The landscape, the waves, and the wind — in both their turmoil and their calm — take part in this permanent symphony. Thus, the opera does not simply seek to belong to a place; it seeks to reveal it, to give it a voice, and to celebrate the music that already lives within it.
