Municipality of Beirut
A closed civic block carved open into an interactive public space for Sodeco.

Concept
This project reimagines the municipality as an open and interactive civic space — a place that serves administrative functions while encouraging community engagement and a stronger connection to the city.
Located in Sodeco, a dynamic urban area, the design is based on openness, accessibility, and fluid interaction with the public realm. The sequence of sketches shows the transformation of a closed, inward-looking volume into a welcoming and inclusive urban form. By carving spaces out of the solid mass, the project opens toward the main street, creating a natural flow that invites people in. As the form evolves, an internal courtyard and pathways emerge, shaping green and social gathering spaces that are both visually and physically connected to the city.
The architecture reflects the main goal of the project: to draw people inward, encourage participation, and create moments of gathering and interaction. The municipality becomes a bridge between people, public life, and the urban context.
